Shinichi Osawa

Shinichi Osawa made his debut as the leader and bassist for MONDO GROSSO, a band formed in Kyoto in 1991. After finishing off the tour following the release of the second album “Born Free,” the band was disbanded in 1995. Thereafter, MONDO GROSSO has become a collaborative unit featuring Shinichi and various vocalists and musicians that he chooses to team up with.

In 1997, he released the third album “Closer.” Around the same time, he began his career as a hit-making producer and produced hits such as “Rhythm” by UA and “YOU MAKE ME” by Monday Michiru, to name a few.

In 1999, he created his own label “REALEYES” inside Sony Music Japan. During the same year, bird, fully produced by Shinichi Osawa as the very first artist from his label, had a massive hit selling well over a million copies. As of the year 2000, he resumed activities as “MONDO GROSS,” now his own unit. Then came the release of a highly-acclaimed masterwork album “MG4,” which includes the smash hit “LIFE.” This album was also released from Sony Music in a total of 25 countries worldwide including the United States, the United Kingdom and France.

In 2002, Shinichi provided a track, as the one and only contributor from Japan, for the official 2002 FIFA WORLD CUP album “FEVER PITCH” which was sold in over 30 countries worldwide.

In 2003, his fifth album “NEXT WAVE” was released. With a sales record of over 150,000 copies, which is extraordinary for a club music album, Shinichi has truly triggered the “next wave” to Japan’s music scene.

Shinichi has collaborated with various international artists – in 2004, he produced “SAMURAI THEME” (later recorded in Fatboy Slim’s latest MIX CD “Fala ai!”) from Bob Sinclar’s Yellow Production compilation series “Africanism 3.” Shinichi works closely with KITSUNE – editing works of Christopher & Raphael Just/“Poper” and Boyz Noize/“Feel Good (TV=OFF)” from KITSUNE label became a worldwide club hit.

His most recent album “The One” was released in September 2007 in Japan through avex and finally saw a release in UK through Southern Fried Records in January 2009 followed by a single “Push” in February 2009. The same album was released in US by Dim Mak in March,

His recent remixes include Felix da Housecat’s “Radio”, Alex Gopher’s “Aurora”, Cazal’s “Poor Innocent Boy”, VanShe’s “Kelly” and The Whip’s “Blackout”.

NT89 è uno dei nuovi talenti italiani che si stanno ritagliando un solido posto al sole nella scena dance underground internazionale.
